Although your villa comes with a fully equipped kitchen and dining room, you’ll find that it can be as cheap to eat out than it is to eat in. There are far too many restaurants in the area for us to even try to give you a guide to them, and in any event, it largely depends on your personal tastes and situation. If you’re travelling with children, then a fine dining experience may not be for you (at least whilst the kids are there as they’ll likely get bored). Likewise, there are those that like to experience authentic Thai cuisine, whilst others like to stick with something rather more familiar.
Whatever your tastes, you can be assured that you’ll have absolutely no problems finding the perfect restaurant. Whilst not wanting to give a guide, we can give an indication of what you’ll find on one short stretch of road that is within easy reach of your villa.
As you travel from Pattaya towards Jomtien beach, you’ll pass The Sugar Hut. This restaurant offers extremely fine, Thai-style dining in an exquisite setting (with a price to match). For those wanting to try authentic Thai food in a romantic setting, this could be the place for you. Go a little further and you’ll come across Brunos – an Italian restaurant with a truly excellent wine cellar. Further still, and you’ll find the Fish and Chip Shop where dining is neither fine nor is there a wine list – however, you’ll get wonderful cod, chips and mushy peas (great when you need some comfort food).
Turn the corner and you’ve got Kaffas – a good, mid-range restaurant which offers a varied selection of both European and Thai food. They also have enormous plasma televisions showing concerts from The Who to Celine Dion. A few metres further on is Euro Star – mainly European Food - and a truly delicious Apple Strudel. A few metres more and you’re at the Captains Table – a great seafood menu that includes dishes marked as ‘Thai people only’ (try them if you dare!).
Along the little stretch of road we’ve just described, you pass a myriad of smaller restaurants and cafes where you can eat your fill of excellent local food for less than a couple of pounds and watch it being cooked in front of your eyes.
Multiply this by 1000 and you’re starting to get an impression of the variety of restaurants you’ll find. Watch the local TV channel from your villa to get some more ideas.
