Pattaya A Go-Go Bars
A GoGo bars are an altogether different proposition. These are always inside and strictly over 21. Inside, you’ll find scantily clad girls pole dancing on one or more stages and their aim is for someone to pay their Bar Fine (which here will be upwards of 500 baht). Depending on the bar, the girls can be extremely friendly – though in other bars they’ll wait to be approached.
Many of the bars also do ‘sexy shows’ – where the dancing girls take it in turns to have their bodies painted in fluorescent paint, perform mini-cabaret acts and sometimes perform somewhat more ‘saucy’ turns.
In a book I once read (Bangkok 8) the principal character (a Thai Policeman) said “it’s no wonder I’ve always been scared of women when the first experience I had of a woman’s private parts was seeing darts fired from them” – enough said. The same system of commissions on drinks works here and tips are expected if you pay the bar fine.
Again though, don’t think that these bars are the preserve of single men – many married couples go in together ‘just to have a look’ and are made very welcome.
